A Letter From Camp Carl's Connection Manager
Hi there!
My name is Kaitlin Warner and I am the Connections Manager at Camp Carl! That means that I am in charge of CONNECTING with each of you and I lead the charge to recruit and hire our summer staff!
I am so excited that you are interested in joining the team for Summer 2023! Please join me in praying that the Lord would bring a group of Christ followers to Camp Carl who are excited to share the wonderful Gospel with campers, and that through them, the Holy Spirit would spark life transformation in the lives of campers! Please pray and seek guidance from the Lord and from trusted believers about whether camp is a good fit for you this summer and to know which job responsibilities would best fit your giftings! But also remember that God doesn’t call the equipped, He equips the called!
Because of the nature of this ministry and the amount of applications we receive, we will only be considering applications of current high school Seniors and older until April, then if positions are available, we will consider high school Juniors.
PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY:
- Allow for 30 – 40 minutes to complete the application.
- Make sure you have information on three references: a spiritual reference, a current or former supervisor, and a teacher. Information needed: email, phone number, and willingness to complete a reference form. We will be sending each of them a reference form on completion of your application.
- Be prepared with a headshot picture of yourself. This picture should be of your shoulders and entire face and contain no other person/pet or object. Please be smiling in your picture! If you are hired, it will be used in our prayer booklets and communications to parents.
- Be prepared with dates of any summer vacation requests.
- Be sure you are available for all of staff training.
After your application is completed, you will receive an email containing your next steps!
Thank you for considering employment at Camp Carl this summer. I speak on behalf of the entire year-round staff when I say that we are praying with you that God will give us wisdom with this decision.
In Him,
Kaitlin Warner | Connections Manager

Staff Benefits
At Camp Carl, we like to reward experience and returning staff so our pay rate is based on how many years you’ve worked at Camp Carl. Because of the nature of the work at Camp, we pay on a daily rate. Your supervisor will keep track of your attendance and your paycheck will be based on how many days you worked. Because of this, it is hard for us to give you an exact amount you’ll make for the summer. Also our training dates tend to fluctuate so the amount of days changes each year. However, if you are present for every day of the summer, compensations tends to follow this approximate structure:
- High School Staff: $2015
- 1st Summer: $2,200
- 2nd Summer: $2,400
- 3rd Summer: $2,600
- 4th Summer & beyond: $2,800
- Unit Leaders: $3,500
Before the summer begins, you are allowed to schedule one week of unpaid vacation during the summer. Any time-off requests put in after the start of the summer are not guaranteed to be granted, however we are happy to work with doctor’s appointments, family emergencies, and school related responsibilities.
Meals are provided during the work week. Your last full meal provided is lunch on Friday. You are on your own for your meals on the weekend, then the first meal provided of the work week is Sunday dinner. Our amazing Chef, Sandy, provides plenty of healthy options for each meal. We also accommodate gluten and dairy free. We are NOT a peanut-free facility because campers may bring them in from home, however we do not serve any peanuts from our kitchen. We eat well at Camp Carl! Just ask our past staff!
If you are a counselor, you will be housed in a cabin with your co-counselor. Each cabin has it’s own full bathroom. If you are in the yurts, there are bathrooms steps from your yurt.
If you are support staff, you will likely be housed with other staff in one of our retreat centers. You will likely share a room with 3-5 other staff members and have communal bathrooms.
We suggest you bring a small plastic drawer container that you keep your personal belongings in all summer. We encourage you to bring pictures and small décor to make your space your own which must be hung up with temporary means (tape, command hooks, thumbtacks, etc)
We also have a shower house attached to our gym that is available to everyone.
You get time off! All of our staff is off on weekends from Friday evening to Sunday afternoon (about 42 hours). Most staffers take this opportunity to head home to do laundry, run errands, go to church, REST or maybe catch a movie. For those out-of-town staff, you can stay on the property for the weekends or more commonly be invited home with one of our local staff members!
Not only would we love for your younger siblings to come to Camp Carl, but they get to come for HALF OFF. Let’s repeat that: your sibling can get a 50% discount for a week of camp! Bonus!
Community at Camp Carl is authentic, real, and life-changing. You live and serve arm-and-arm with fellow eternity-focused people who LOVE each other, and the campers, sacrificially. We want to make sure all our staff are involved in intentional community so once we know who our team is going to be, we will separate everyone into small discipleship groups that will meet together once a week. The community that you will gain over the course of your time at Camp Carl will enrich your life, not just for the summer but we find that our staff members carry on friendships made at camp for years to come.
College Credit & Internships
It is possible to work at camp AND receive college credit. If you have an applicable field of study and would like to make your summer position into an internship, contact us once you apply and we can discuss the possibility of an internship.
Skill Development
Camp Carl is a hands-on learning environment that not only provides deep spiritual growth, but invaluable life and job skills to EQUIP you for any future career. In a summer at Camp, our staff gain more than 700 hours of on-the-job training in problem solving, work ethic, interpersonal communication, conflict resolution and team work dynamics. Through focused mentorship from the Camp Director, Unit Leaders, and their peers, staff acquire tangible life experiences in leadership, self-discipline, and team dynamics. By sharpening skills and developing character, we prepare and equip our staff for whatever God has called them to next!
